Solar Panels used on Caravans, Motorhomes, Narrowboats, Canalboats refer to Photovoltaic (PV) panels which harness the suns energy and use it to recharge your leisure batteries. Solar panels work by using solar technology which turns light into electricity. Solar Panels do not require direct sunlight, so the panels work even in cloudy, Overcast Britain. Solar Panels produce "clean" energy which does not contribute to climate change, there is no pollution produced, and Solar Panels are completely silent.
There are no moving parts either in Solar Panels used for Caravans, Motorhomes, Narrowboats, Canalboats or Boats, so it is reliable and low-maintenance method of charging your 12 volt, 24 volt or 36 volt leisure batteries.
We will also be stock Solar Panel range, from 6W to 180W. - complete 'Plug and Go' Kits for free standing applications like Camping and Caravanning, Motorhomes, Narrowboats, Canalboats and Boats. Roof and elevated mounting kits ideal for Caravans, Motorhomes, Narrowboats, Canalboats. The elevated solar panels kits provide maximise efficiency for the majority of the day and produce extra power.
There four main components required for solar power generation:-
The solar panels are able to absorb energy from the sun through a variety of smaller solar cells on their surface. As the photons from the sun's rays hit the solar cells on a photovoltaic panel, the energy is transferred to a silicon semiconductor. The photon is then transformed into electricity and then passed through connecting wires to finally enter a power generation facility or battery.
A solar charge controller (or solar regulator) is an essential component of most solar charging systems over 10W. A charge controller protects your battery from overcharging and protects your panel from reverse current flow. If it has a low voltage disconnect (LVD) facility, a controller will protect the battery from draining. We supply charge controllers suitable for either 12V, 6V and 24V systems, and for solar panels rated up to 60A. We also have solar controllers for dual battery systems – these can charge both a leisure and a starter battery, for example.
Batteries are used to store energy, just like a fuel tank in a car. Just like a fuel tank, they do not produce energy. The energy taken out needs to be replaced or the battery will eventually run out of power. The most popular types for solar and wind applications are deep cycle lead acid batteries. From the cost and reliability perspective, this established technology continues to dominate. Lead acid batteries have to be treated with care or they will need replacing very quickly.
An Inverter gives the user the ability to use power from a DC source like your batteries and convert it to AC like your household grid. This will give you the ability to turn on your residence lights, run your microwave, play your stereo day or night and without a generator. On a grid-tied solar panel system, it would give you power during a power failure.
